Most private shooting ranges exist so that members can practise. This one has been handed the events that decide who represents the state.

Thirty kilometres north of the office, the group built somewhere for people to learn to shoot straight.

Crowne Shooting & Sports Academy opened at Valad in March 2019 with a full trap, double trap and skeet setup built to international specification. It is affiliated to the National Rifle Association of India, the Gujarat State Rifle Association and the Gandhinagar District Rifle Association, and its course is structured by a former Olympic trap shooter.

Its president, Mr Vasant Patel, competes at national level himself — and spends the rest of his time teaching schoolchildren to hold a shotgun properly.

The range runs a one-day shotgun orientation for students and for company employees, and a three-day advanced course.
